Competition Rules

Layout, format and submission …

  • your entry must be typed, double-spaced, with page numbers and with the title and your name on the top of each page
  • do not include images
  • you need to submit a word document – .doc or .docx
  • please do not lock your file for editing – we need to add a unique ID competition entry form to your entry
  • once sent to us, no alterations may be made to your competition entry
  • your entry will not be returned, so please keep a copy
  • all submissions must be uploaded to the wordylicious website using the online entry form by the deadline

Who can enter …

  • anyone over the age of 13
  • if you are under 18 you need to have parental consent to enter the competition
  • one entry is accepted for each person per competition
  • organisations can make up to 10 entries for students or members – each entry must be by a different writer

What kind of writing can be entered …

  • entries should be in British English and should not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere – this includes online and self-published writing
  • entries that have won or are under consideration in other fiction competitions are not eligible
  • entries should not be a translation of another author’s work
  • entries should not contain offensive language, violence, or sexual content.  We will also not consider entries which express discriminatory ideas, support discrimation, or cause other forms of offence
  • all writing must be the original work of the person entering the competition

Competition results and how we use your entry …

  • Results are notified to winners by email and winning entries, runner up winners and highly commended pieces are published on
  • No competitor will win more than one prize in any one category.
  • Copyright of any entry remains with the author, but wordylicious has the unrestricted right to publish the winning entries on its website, in ebook, and paper book form, and in any related material for PR purposes
